On the next Out-FM, Tuesday, Jan 30th, 7-8PM

On Tuesday, January 30th from 7-8 PM, tune into Out-FM (the progressive LGBT show on WBAI - 99.5 FM) for dispatches from Creating Change, the NGLTF's annual conference for LGBT movement building.

We'll hear from HUD Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan, former NGLTF Executive Director Urvashi Vaid, and QPOC youth activists from FIERCE, who delivered a rousing, OWS-style mic check to Obama Administration representatives on Friday.

Dean Spade on Prison Abolition and Anti-Transgender Violence, and FIERCE Radicalizes the Creating Change Conference

On this week's show we discuss anti-transgender hate crimes, prison abolition, and alternative models of justice with Dean Spade and Eric Stanley. We will also report on LGBT youth of color activist group FIERCE's attempts to radicalize the agenda at last weekend's Creating Change conference.

First, we hear an interview with Dean Spade about the epidemic of violence against trans and gender nonconforming people and discuss responses to that violence beyond hate crimes legislation.

Then we hear an excerpt from a Romantic Friendship Radio conversation about prison abolition and alternative models of justice with Dean Spade, Eric Stanley, Reina Gossett, and Sashay aka Sasha Wortzel.

We also took listener calls about these provocative critiques.

We end the show with a dispatch from the 2012 Creating Change Conference. First, the Obama Administration's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development announces new federal regulations prohibiting discrimination against LGBT people. Then, queer youth of color activists from FIERCE try to radicalize the agenda at a discussion with representatives from the Obama administration, accusing them of pinkwashing their overall conservative policy record.

Up first, Naomi interviews Maurice Tomlinson, a Jamaican queer and HIV/AIDS activist about the election of a Prime Minister last week who said openly in debate that she would be willing to have a gay person in her cabinet because the ability of the person is important and not their sexuality.

We also share a presentation from Darryl Moore, head of the Newark LGBT Commission, from a panel on Gay Black Men in the University
